What you'll be doing…
As the Associate Director of Responsible AI, you will lead Verizon’s enterprise-wide efforts to ensure our artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies are developed, deployed, and scaled safely, ethically, and equitably. Sitting at the intersection of technology, law, and business, you will serve as the central authority on AI risk and governance as Verizon continues to integrate advanced AI across our global 5G network and customer experiences.
• Defining, scaling, and managing Verizon’s enterprise-wide Responsible AI (RAI) framework to align with global standards like the NIST AI RMF.
• Co-chairing the AI Governance Council, facilitating strategic reviews of high-impact AI use cases, and establishing clear "go/no-go" criteria for model deployment.
• Designing and implementing AI auditing processes focused on bias mitigation, algorithmic fairness, transparency, and explainability.
• Partnering with Legal, Privacy, and Public Policy teams to navigate the rapidly evolving AI regulatory landscape (e.g., EU AI Act, FTC guidelines) and ensure strict compliance.
• Leading cross-functional AI "red-teaming" and stress-testing initiatives to identify vulnerabilities and edge-case failures in production models.
• Collaborating with ML engineers and product managers to embed RAI checkpoints directly into the CI/CD pipeline and ML lifecycle (MLOps).
• Developing comprehensive training programs to upskill Verizon’s workforce on AI ethics, data privacy, and responsible development practices. What we're looking for…
You are a strategic leader who seamlessly bridges the gap between complex technical algorithms and enterprise risk. You have a deep passion for technology ethics and possess the unique ability to translate abstract principles—like fairness and privacy—into measurable engineering metrics and operational workflows. With exceptional stakeholder management skills, you are just as comfortable discussing prompt injection risks with data scientists as you are presenting governance strategies to C-suite executives.
You'll need to have:
• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Eight or more years of relevant work experience in technology policy, data governance, legal, risk management, or data science.
• Three or more years of direct leadership experience in AI Governance, Responsible AI, Tech Ethics, or AI/ML Risk Management at an enterprise scale.
• Deep understanding of machine learning lifecycles, generative AI technologies, and the specific ethical risks associated with Large Language Models (LLMs).
• Demonstrated experience translating global AI and data regulations (e.g., NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act, GDPR, CCPA) into enterprise compliance strategies. Even better if you have one or more of the following:
• A Master’s degree, JD, or PhD in Law, Public Policy, Computer Science, Data Ethics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
• Experience operating within highly regulated industries such as Telecommunications, Financial Services, or Healthcare.
• Active certifications in privacy or risk (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPT) or relevant AI ethics credentials.
• A proven track record of representing your organization in industry consortiums, academic partnerships, or standard-setting bodies focused on AI ethics and safety.
Where you’ll be working
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.
