Security Engineer Salary in the United States

Posted ranges are base salary. They come disproportionately from employers in pay-transparency states, so the sample tilts toward California, Colorado, New York and Washington — expect national medians to sit slightly lower than what you see here.

Total compensation is a different number. At public companies, equity refreshers and bonus typically add 15–40% on top of base for security engineer roles; at seed and Series A startups, cash is usually 10–20% below these bands with options making up the difference on paper.
