Job Title: Junior Cyber Software Engineer Job Category: Information Technology Time Type: Full time Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Secret Employee Type: Regular Percentage of Travel Required: Up to 10% Type of Travel: Continental US * * * he C5ISR Center Cybersecurity Division is seeking a highly motivated Junior Cyber Software Engineer to design, develop, and secure next-generation tactical cyber infrastructure and mission‑critical defense solutions. In this role, you will apply Rust and other memory‑safe, systems-level languages to build efficient, secure, and resilient software across embedded architectures, military ground vehicles, and tactical networks. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to modernize the tactical cyber landscape, reduce vulnerabilities, and support critical   Secure Software Development • Develop clean, safe, and highly efficient code primarily in Rust , with supplemental modules in C, C++, or Go. Vulnerability Mitigation • Redesign and harden legacy software modules using memory‑safe architectures to mitigate memory-corruption exploits such as buffer overflows. Embedded & Tactical Systems Integration • Support integration of software components with custom hardware, in‑vehicle data networks, and tactical C5ISR communication systems. Testing & Debugging • Review, debug, and test software using automated pipelines to meet strict design requirements and validate defense performance metrics. Lifecycle & Documentation • Contribute to requirements analysis, architecture development, and creation of technical documentation aligned with DoD software engineering standards. Required Qualifications & Skills Education • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related STEM discipline. Experience • 1–3 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent military / co‑op experience. Language Proficiency • Strong understanding of Rust fundamentals (safe/unsafe Rust, ownership & borrowing rules, concurrency). • Hands-on experience or working familiarity with C, C++, or Go. Technical Environment • Proficiency with Linux environments, shell scripting, and version control using Git. Clearance • Active DoD Secret security clearance required and must be maintained.   Preferred & Desired Qualifications • Familiarity with memory-safe coding paradigms, static analysis tools, and cryptographic implementation approaches. • Exposure to embedded systems development, hardware abstraction layers, or real-time operating systems (RTOS). • Foundational understanding of DoD cybersecurity frameworks such as RMF and STIGs . • DoD 8140/8570 compliance (e.g., Security+ CE ). - What You Can Expect:  A culture of integrity. Pay Range : There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
