Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Maneuver Dominance team at Anduril develops operationally relevant, multi-asset autonomy. Omen is Anduril’s hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle (AAV) that packs the endurance, payload, and mission flexibility of much larger airplanes into a novel, runway-independent Group 3 platform. Omen can operate from ship decks, beaches, or remote island clearings, providing true runway independence and freedom of maneuver across defense and civilian domains. Omen is the first tail-sitter aircraft with a mass-production contract, with an order of 50 systems representing a decisive investment that anchors production and accelerates the development of future systems.
ABOUT THE JOB
Anduril is seeking a Tracking and Estimation-focused Software Engineer to join the Omen team at our HQ in Costa Mesa, CA. In this role, you will own the integration and tuning of tracking and fusion algorithms that ingest a wide range of sensor modalities from onboard Omen payload modules. Additionally, you will own the calibration strategy for varied sensor and payload configurations deployed on each vehicle. You will be responsible for deploying solutions for both real-time target tracking and long-term combined track states.
Your work will ensure that Anduril products seamlessly interoperate to achieve mission-critical outcomes. This requires strong system-level knowledge and practical experience. If you are someone who possesses a “Whatever It Takes” mindset—executing in an expedient, scalable, and pragmatic way while keeping the mission top of mind and making sound engineering decisions—then this role is for you.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Own the tracking and fusion systems and services deployed to customers.
• Define standard APIs for internal and external consumers providing inputs to our tracking systems.
• Work closely with core tracking teams across Anduril to effectively integrate their products.
• Develop optimal methods for condensing tracking information over long intervals into actionable, easily consumed formats for end users.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality.
• Own the calibration approach for each configuration of the Omen payload modules.
• Partner with end users to translate operational needs into product features while balancing user experience with engineering constraints.
• Travel up to 25% to build, test, and deploy capabilities in real-world environments.
CORE REQUIREMENTS
• Strong engineering background from industry or academia in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience using Rust or C++.
• Experience building software solutions involving large-scale data processing and analysis.
• Hands-on experience deploying tracking and estimation algorithms (e.g., KF/EKF/UKF, batch tracking, or MLE).
• Ability to quickly navigate and understand complex systems and established codebases.
• A strong desire to work on mission-critical software with tangible real-world impact.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% for flight testing, field exercises, and demonstrations.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
• Strong background in state estimation, physics, mathematics, and/or motion planning to inform modeling and simulation (M&S) and physical systems.
• Deep understanding of robotics tracking and estimation, including recursive and batch tracking/filtering, track initiation, measurement-to-track assignment, feature-aided tracking, non-linear optimization, sensor-to-sensor fusion, and track-to-track fusion.
• Experience implementing and validating sensor calibration pipelines on autonomous vehicles.
• Experience developing, testing, and deploying multi-agent autonomous systems in real-world field environments.
• Experience with behavior trees for autonomous feature and algorithm development.
• Experience developing software and hardware architectures for flight-critical or safety-critical systems.
• Familiarity with distributed communication networks, pub/sub architectures, and modern messaging protocols.
