Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a Software and Hardware Integration Engineer to support a Department of Defense program office in a government-funded software and hardware integration laboratory.
In this hands-on role, you will integrate government-developed software with Government-Off-The-Shelf and commercially available hardware to enable software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing. You will help build and maintain the laboratory’s test capabilities, perform embedded hardware and software bring-up, develop automated test solutions, and support formal integration events, demonstrations, exercises, fielding activities, and flight tests.
This position is well suited for an engineer who enjoys working across embedded systems, networking, test automation, laboratory infrastructure, and mission-focused platforms. You will have significant ownership of laboratory capabilities and will work with multidisciplinary teams to identify issues, evaluate new technologies, and deliver reliable integration and test environments.
What You'll Be Doing :
• Own lab tooling, hardware inventory, test equipment, infrastructure, and capability growth, including field-representative configurations, platforms, GCSs, gateways, managed switching, Wi-Fi, VPN, and remote developer access.
• Coordinate lab boundary access with enterprise Zero Trust/SDP teams.
• Design and fabricate fixtures, test stands, payload mounts, enclosures, cabling, and wire harnesses.
• Build and maintain SITL/HITL test harnesses; perform board bring-up, software loading, network configuration, and peripheral setup.
• Integrate and test government software with GOTS/COTS hardware, including airframes, payloads, GCSs, and MANET radios such as Silvus, Lattice, and WebTAK.
• Develop, execute, automate, troubleshoot, and document test procedures and scripts.
• Support hardware/software bring-up, validation, integration events, demonstrations, exercises, fielding, flight tests, and airworthiness readiness.
• Evaluate candidate technologies for program adoption and maintain/deploy the away kit.
• Document integration activities, interface diagrams, bring-up steps, test plans, procedures, results, and technical status.
• Use Jira, Confluence, Git, GitLab, Nexus, and TestRail for work tracking, documentation, version control, CI/CD, artifact management, and test management.
• Participate in SAFe ceremonies, including PI Planning, sprint planning, reviews, and system demos.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
• Bachelors Degree and 8+ years of experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Active Top Secret security clearance and eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information access.
• Proficiency with bench equipment: Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, power supplies; soldering and PCB rework tools.
• Hands-on experience with embedded hardware and software integration, including board bring-up and loading software images.
• Proficiency with C, C++, Python, Rust, or a comparable programming language for scripting and test automation.
• Experience with UART, JTAG, low-level debugging, network configuration, and device setup.
• Proficiency with Linux, containerization concepts, and Internet Protocol networking fundamentals.
• Experience developing or executing test procedures and documenting test results.
• Experience with Git and GitLab.
• Familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
• Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments, take initiative, troubleshoot complex problems, and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25%–50% of the time.
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
• Prior experience supporting Department of Defense or other government programs.
• Familiarity with Modular Open Systems Approach and open systems architectures.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience developing and executing automated integration or system tests.
• Experience with unmanned aircraft systems or other unmanned systems.
• Experience with mobile ad hoc network or tactical radios.
• Experience with ground control stations, payloads, gateways, or field-representative mission systems.
• Experience with computer-aided design and additive manufacturing.
• Experience supporting formal government integration, verification, validation, or test events.
• Experience authoring comprehensive laboratory plans, test plans, test procedures, and technical reports.
• Familiarity with TestRail, Nexus, continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, or SAFe practices.
Security Clearance Requirement:
An active Top Secret security clearance is required to apply, however, the selected candidate must be able to obtain a Top Secret SCI clearance prior to the start date.
