As R&D – Data Systems Engineer, Technology Center, you will develop, maintain, and continuously improve the software, data acquisition, database, and engineering systems that enable product verification, reliability, and performance testing within the Technology Center. In this hands-on technical role, you will partner closely with R&D engineers and laboratory technicians to integrate data acquisition hardware, instrumentation, software, and data-management solutions used to evaluate cold storage and laboratory equipment. You will also provide local technical ownership and support for engineering design applications, including SolidWorks and related engineering software. Your work will enable reliable, traceable, and efficient collection and analysis of engineering data while improving laboratory automation, test repeatability, and the productivity of product development teams. --- What will you do? Data Acquisition & Test Systems · Develop, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot data acquisition and test-control systems supporting controlled-environment product testing. · Develop and maintain software applications and test scripts used to control laboratory equipment, acquire test data, and automate engineering test execution. · Integrate instrumentation and control hardware including thermocouples, temperature sensors, pressure transducers, flow sensors, power measurement devices, DAQ hardware, PLCs, and related laboratory equipment. · Partner with engineers and technicians to translate test requirements into effective data acquisition, instrumentation, and automation solutions. · Troubleshoot hardware, software, communications, instrumentation, and data-quality issues affecting laboratory testing. · Support configuration, commissioning, and lifecycle maintenance of custom and commercially available laboratory test systems. Data, Database & Laboratory Information Systems · Develop and maintain databases used for secure storage, organization, retrieval, and analysis of engineering test data. · Maintain appropriate data integrity, availability, backup, and redundancy practices for Technology Center test data. · Develop efficient methods for transferring test data from laboratory equipment into databases and engineering analysis tools. · Support standardization of test-data structures, naming conventions, metadata, and reporting practices. · Identify opportunities to improve accessibility and usability of engineering data while maintaining appropriate controls. Engineering Software & Systems Support · Serve as the local technical resource for engineering design software used by the Controlled Temperature Technologies R&D team, including SolidWorks and related applications. · Coordinate software installation, configuration, licensing, upgrades, and troubleshooting in partnership with internal IT and third-party vendors. · Evaluate new software and laboratory technology solutions and provide technical recommendations based on capability, compatibility, maintainability, and business need. · Maintain documentation for critical laboratory applications, configurations, interfaces, and system dependencies. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement · Maintain a safe work environment and a high level of safety awareness while working with laboratory equipment and controlled-environment test systems. · Establish and maintain standard work, documentation, and configuration practices for critical data and software systems. · Apply Lean / PPI principles to automate repetitive activities, simplify workflows, improve data availability, and reduce test-system variability. --- How will you get here? Education · Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline preferred. · Associate degree in a related technical discipline with significant relevant experience may be considered. Experience · 3+ years of experience developing, implementing, or maintaining software and data systems supporting engineering, laboratory, manufacturing, or test environments. · Experience developing and maintaining data acquisition and automated test systems. · Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining databases for engineering or test data. · Experience developing software or test applications using tools such as LabVIEW, Python, SQL, C/C++, .NET, or similar development environments. · Experience integrating software with DAQ hardware, PLCs, instrumentation, sensors, or other physical test equipment. · Experience supporting engineering software applications, including SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms, preferred. · Experience supporting controlled-environment, HVAC/R, refrigeration, thermal, or electromechanical product testing strongly preferred. · Experience working with third-party software and hardware suppliers preferred. --- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities · Strong understanding of data acquisition system architecture, instrumentation, signal acquisition, and engineering data management. · Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data structures, data integrity, backup, and retrieval methods. · Ability to develop and troubleshoot software that interfaces with physical hardware, instrumentation, and laboratory equipment. · Familiarity with sensors and instrumentation used for thermal testing, including thermocouples, pressure transducers, electrical measurements, and related DAQ devices. · Working knowledge of PLCs, industrial communications, and automated test-control architectures preferred. · Working knowledge of HVAC/R, refrigeration, or controlled-environment testing strongly preferred. · Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, technicians, IT professionals, external vendors, and cross-functional partners. · Ability to develop clear technical documentation and train users on software and test-system applications. · Ability and willingness to work hands-on in laboratory, prototype, and manufacturing environments. --- Our Mission and Values Our global team of approximately 125,000 colleagues delivers an unrivaled combination of innovative technologies, purchasing convenience, and pharmaceutical services.
