Job Description Hybrid:  This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin TX IT Innovation Center or Warren Michigan GM Technical Center 3-4 days per week (T-W-Th)  The Role The Senior Systems Engineer provides application operations support and application ownership for production-critical applications used at vehicle and propulsion manufacturing sites. Using Site Reliability Engineering practices, this role helps ensure application availability, reliable performance, effective monitoring, and timely issue resolution. You will work across Linux, Windows, Kubernetes, cloud, Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL environments. You will collaborate with business and technology teams to troubleshoot issues, implement improvements, support deployments, maintain documentation, and deliver reliable services to manufacturing operations. What You’ll Do • Support applications used in vehicle assembly and propulsion manufacturing environments. • Monitor the health, availability, and performance of applications and infrastructure. • Troubleshoot and resolve application issues within agreed service levels. • Design and implement configuration changes that support business needs. • Support production issue resolution, code deployments, patch releases, and other critical activities. • Perform root-cause analysis with application, infrastructure, development, deployment, and database teams. • Create and maintain procedures for troubleshooting, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery. • Manage certificates, technical documentation, application ownership activities, and support processes. • Use queries and diagnostic tools to investigate issues across databases and operating environments. • Build strong relationships with business partners, technical teams, colleagues, and management. • Follow established information technology, security, and operational processes. • Provide remote technical support to manufacturing sites. • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation after completing the required acclimation period. • Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture. Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. • 3+ years of experience in a technical information technology (IT) role. • 3+ years of experience supporting Linux and/or Windows operating systems. • Experience with Oracle and/or SQL databases. • Knowledge of Docker containers and Kubernetes container orchestration. • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and accuracy. • Ability to support production-critical applications and participate in an on-call rotation. What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) • Experience supporting applications in a manufacturing or plant operations environment. • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering practices, application monitoring, or service-level objectives. • Experience with cloud platforms, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or infrastructure automation. • Experience with observability, incident management, problem management, or root-cause analysis. • Experience using Glean or a similar enterprise AI and knowledge-search platform. • Ability to use generative AI to troubleshoot incidents, summarize technical issues, create runbooks, and improve application-support workflows. • Strong prompt-writing and AI-output validation skills. • Understanding of responsible AI use, access controls, data privacy, and protection of confidential information. • Experience with AI-assisted automation, scripting, APIs, monitoring, or observability tools. • Knowledge of manufacturing , plant operations, or production-critical systems. Work Environment This role supports production-critical applications used by manufacturing operations. The position may require support during critical production periods, non-traditional working hours, deployments, patch releases, and on-call coverage. The role provides remote technical support to manufacturing sites and may require work from a designated company facility according to the approved work arrangement. #LI-CK1 Gm does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
