AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Amazon's Data Center Engineering organization, within the Controls Design eXecution (CDX) org, is seeking a Systems Development Engineer (SysDE) to join our Electrical Controls development team. In this role, you will design, develop, deploy, and scale control systems software on the CODESYS platform that runs the electrical controls and power distribution of AWS data centers. You will work at the intersection of software development and physical infrastructure, developing the control logic for the newest generation of in-house electrical controllers. As the controller components you develop go into their first-of-kind builds, you will occasionally travel on-site (approximately 15%) to provide real-time break/fix support and validate your work in the field.
Key job responsibilities
• Design, develop, and maintain mechanical control systems software on the CODESYS (IEC 61131-3) PLC platform for AWS data center infrastructure.
• Develop and refine control logic, function blocks, and Sequences of Operations (SOO) to meet performance and reliability requirements across varied site types and equipment vendors.
• Perform triage, root-cause analysis, and remediation of control system issues.
• Support first-of-kind builds — the first field deployment of a newly developed controller component — including occasional on-site travel to provide real-time break/fix support.
• Partner with other electrical controls product development, Controls Design Engineering, Field Engineering, and other Data Center Engineering teams to develop the next generation of controllers.
• Document control system designs, configurations, and sequences of operation.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of controls development standards and tooling.
• Provide escalation support for critical control system issues.
