A Day in the Life The Packaging Engineering function supports the development, validation, and continuous improvement of packaging systems for medical devices across the product lifecycle. The team partners closely with research and development, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, supply chain, and operations teams to create packaging solutions that protect product integrity, support patient safety, and comply with global regulatory and quality requirements. Packaging Engineering is responsible for packaging design, material selection, package validation, process development, and commercialization activities that support new product development and ongoing portfolio enhancements. Adapted from This position is based in Irvine, CA. The role follows a hybrid work arrangement with an on-site presence expected four days per week and one remote workday per week. Some travel may be required.                     The Senior Packaging Engineer supports the development and commercialization of medical device packaging solutions from concept through market release. This role partners with cross-functional teams to design, develop,   validate , and implement packaging systems, provide technical   expertise   for packaging-related projects, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.    Primary Responsibilities   • Design, develop, and implement packaging components, assemblies, and systems for medical device products.    • Lead packaging development activities from concept generation through commercialization, ensuring alignment with product and business requirements.    • Evaluate, source, test, and qualify packaging materials and components to support product performance and regulatory requirements.    • Develop and   maintain   technical documentation, including design specifications, requirements, validation protocols, reports, and related quality system records.    • Serve as a packaging subject matter expert on cross-functional teams,   providing   technical guidance on packaging design, manufacturing processes, and technology solutions.    • Support investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance packaging performance, quality, and operational effectiveness.    • Collaborate   across   Packaging Engineering teams and business functions to   identify   and implement best practices.    • Apply knowledge of applicable packaging regulations, standards, and quality requirements to ensure robust package validation and qualification activities.    Required Qualifications   • 4+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 2+ years of experience with an advanced degree     • Experience supporting product development, packaging development, or manufacturing projects from concept through commercialization.    • Experience developing technical documentation, engineering specifications, validation activities, and quality system deliverables.    • Knowledge of packaging development principles, packaging materials, and packaging validation processes within a regulated environment.    Preferred Qualifications   • Master's   degree in Engineering , Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or   a related   technical discipline.    • Experience in medical device packaging, biomedical materials, packaging materials, and packaging design procedures.    • Proven experience supporting innovative packaging design, product development, and manufacturing initiatives.    • Knowledge of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) requirements, and medical device packaging validation practices.    • Experience leading cross-functional teams, managing technical projects, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.    For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
