Position summary:
T-Mobile is America’s supercharged Un-carrier, delivering an advanced 4G LTE and transformative nationwide 5G network that will offer reliable connectivity for all. Principal Engineers, Software is located in Bellevue, WA will drive engineering projects and team members by developing software solutions; conducting tests and inspections; preparing reports and calculations.
• Telecommuting is permitted, but applicant must work from the worksite location at least 3-4 days per week. No additional national or international travel is anticipated.
Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Expected to supervise base through senior level engineers as needed.
• Presents project improvement scenarios to management for consideration.
• Monitors and influence relevant industry technologies and standards.
• Presents highly technical concepts to both technical and non-technical decision-makers.
• Continuously learns, creates content, and teaches others specific subject areas.
• Informally coaches and contributes to the development of others through mentoring or in house workshops and learning sessions.
• Develops engineers across functional teams on technology decisions.
• Influence technology and policy decisions made across the VP organization.
• Understand financial decisions, including NPV and ROI, based on customer experience/business drivers.
• Evaluates new and existing technology options that support business goals.
• Understands current technology that supports business goals.
• Understands system protocols, how systems operate and data flows.
• Aware of current technology benefits.
• Expected to independently develop a full software stack.
• Understands the building blocks, interactions, dependencies, and tools required to complete software and automation work.
• Independent study of current technology is expected.
• Interact with system engineers to define system requirement and/or necessary requirements for automation.
• Develops, designs, and implements new ideas which utilize new frameworks to improve an existing or new system/process/service.
• Investigative independent study and problem solving for non-routine tasks.
• Analyzes existing processes and vendor roadmaps to highlight upcoming technology changes that would make the processes or tools more effective within a given VP function.
• Contributes to the creation of company IPR.
• Writes advanced documentation, architecture, capabilities, limitations, and advantages for technologies.
• Creates and modifies clear documentation for new code and systems used.
• Documenting systems designs, presentations, and business requirements for consumption and consideration at the director level.
• Contributes to industry professional norms.
• Contributes to the protection of company IPR.
Minimum requirements:
Experience and education requirements:
PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Programming, Computer Engineering, or related, and 7 years of relevant work experience in any occupation in which the required experience is gained.
ALTERNATIVE REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Programming, Computer Engineering, or related, and five (5) years of relevant work experience in any occupation in which the required experience is gained.
Skills requirements: Requires experience in each of the following:
1. Designing and developing large-scale Android application using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Android architecture components, ensuring compliance with Google Play publishing requirements.
2. Architecting modular, scalable, and testable Android solutions using Clean Architecture, MVVM, and established design patterns using Factory, Adapter, and Singleton to support longterm platform evolution and code maintainability.
3. Implementing asynchronous and reactive application flows using Kotlin Coroutines and Flow to manage UI state, background processing, and lifecycle-aware components for responsive and resilient Android applications.
4. Implementing continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools: GitLab, Fastlane, Docker, and SonarQube to automate build, test, and release processes and maintain high code quality across environments.
5. Optimizing app performance and reliability through benchmarking, profiling, and Android build tools: Gradle, Proguard; applying testing culture with frameworks Espresso to ensure quality, accessibility, and stability.
6. Providing technical leadership in Android application development by defining architectural standards, enforcing coding best practices using: SonarQube, Detekt, ktlint, and Android Lint; conducting design and code reviews using: GitLab and JIRA, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering, product, and UX teams to deliver scalable mobile solutions using: Jetpack Compose, Gradle, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), and Modular architecture patterns.
