As an Electrical Engineer II at Thermo Fisher Scientific, you'll be part of a collaborative team developing advanced instrumentation that helps make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. You'll work on projects ranging from laboratory equipment to analytical instruments, collaborating with R&D teams to design and optimize electrical and electronic systems. Your role will involve hands-on work with circuit design, prototyping, testing, and documentation while receiving mentorship to grow your technical expertise. Location
This is a fully onsite role based at our Tewksbury, MA.
The R&D group at the Tewksbury site is responsible for the design and maintenance of Thermo Fisher's lineup of hand-held, chemical identification analyzers (Raman and IR spectrometers) and elemental analyzers (XRF spectrometers). This position is a critical resource in the new product development and sustaining activities requiring extensive experience in circuit and PCB design, both digital and analog.
Responsibilities
• Work within a multi-functional engineering team to bring new products to market
• Focus on design efficiencies, risk mitigation, cost reduction and overall product quality
• High speed digital design (microcontroller and FPGA) and ability to assess PCB layout fidelity
• Analog circuit design (power conversion, low noise signal amplification and conversion, circuit impedance, motor control)
• Design for EMC and ESD compliance (IEC61010)
• Employ electrical test instruments to perform validation testing and root cause analysis of issues on small form factor PCB designs
• Provide ownership of projects and tasks and take initiative in addressing technical challenges
• Assist in the improvement and implementation of product design processes
Keys to Success
Education
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Experience
• Experience with analog and digital circuit design, circuit simulation, and SPICE modeling
• Proficiency with circuit design and simulation tools
• Experience with communication protocols such as USB, RS232, Ethernet, and Modbus
• FPGA design and HDL programming experience preferred
• Strong foundation in electrical and electronics engineering fundamentals
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Knowledge of testing protocols and ability to use standard test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, voltmeters)
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements (EMC, safety standards)
• Basic programming knowledge (C/C++) preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Strong documentation skills for technical specifications and design artifacts
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to read, create and modify electrical schematics and PCB layouts
• Ability to perform component selection and BOM management
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $75,900.00–$88,000.00.
