Overview LMI is seeking a Platform Engineer to support IronSled, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) designed to accelerate application development and deployment in secure federal environments. You will join a cross-functional engineering team responsible for designing, deploying, maintaining, and continuously improving the platform's infrastructure, services, and capabilities. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building and operating reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-native infrastructure. You will work across the full lifecycle of platform services, from initial design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and ongoing optimization. You will collaborate with software developers and other platform engineers to improve delivery pipelines, automate infrastructure operations, troubleshoot complex technical challenges, and strengthen overall platform reliability. The role requires strong technical expertise, independent problem-solving, and a commitment to DevSecOps principles and continuous improvement. This position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance. About the Team IronSled sits within LMI’s Chief Technology Office. We are a small, high-visibility team building and operating a secure application-hosting platform for federal agencies. Our culture is more product-focused and collaborative than a traditional government contracting environment. We move quickly, solve problems directly, and prioritize outcomes over unnecessary process. At the same time, our users depend on IronSled to operate critical applications, making reliability, security, communication, and attention to detail essential. You will work closely with the Product Manager, Engineering Lead, platform engineers, application developers, and tenant teams. Because IronSled is continuing to evolve, you will have opportunities to help improve its support processes, documentation, automation, and technical capabilities. LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact through innovation and speed. By investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI delivers commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready artificial intelligence capabilities to federal agencies at commercial speed. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI supports the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors, helping agencies navigate complexity, modernize critical capabilities, and strengthen mission outcomes. Responsibilities What You’ll Do • Participate in the full lifecycle of platform services, including design, development, deployment, operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement using agile methodologies. • Support the design and launch of new services through architecture discussions, infrastructure development, capacity planning, technical reviews, and deployment readiness assessments. • Design, build, maintain, and optimize automated CI/CD pipelines to support consistent, reliable, and secure application delivery. • Apply DevSecOps principles to integrate security scanning, automated testing, and compliance checks into build and deployment workflows. • Develop and maintain Python and Bash scripts to automate infrastructure operations, eliminate repetitive tasks, and improve engineering efficiency. • Monitor and maintain production services, evaluating availability, latency, performance, and overall system health to ensure platform reliability. • Manage containerized applications and Kubernetes environments, including deployment configurations, resource management, troubleshooting, and operational improvements. • Implement and improve release management processes, including artifact versioning, deployment strategies, upgrades, and rollback capabilities. • Collaborate with software development and infrastructure teams to resolve technical challenges, improve deployment practices, and strengthen application performance and reliability. • Identify opportunities to improve platform scalability, reliability, and deployment velocity through automation and engineering enhancements. • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and retrospectives to identify improvements and prevent recurring issues. Qualifications What We’re Looking For • 7–10 years of experience in DevSecOps engineering, platform engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field. • 5+ years of experience programming in Python, including debugging, optimizing code, and developing automation for infrastructure and operational tasks. • Strong understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems and experience administering and troubleshooting Linux-based environments. • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining automated CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab CI/CD. • Experience integrating automated security scans of source code and build artifacts into deployment pipelines, including implementing security-based deployment controls. • Strong understanding of containerization technologies and experience deploying and managing containerized web applications. • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration platforms such as Amazon EKS, AKS, GKE, OpenShift, or similar technologies. • Experience managing application release artifacts, version control, deployment rollouts, upgrades, and rollback procedures. • Proficiency with Bash scripting and command-line tools for system administration, troubleshooting, and automation. • Ability to collaborate with software development and infrastructure teams and provide technical guidance on application development, deployment, and platform integration. • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a systematic approach to investigating and resolving complex technical problems. • Effective communication skills, strong technical ownership, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced engineering environment. • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance.
