Early Career Mechanical Design Engineer Company: The Boeing Company Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) is looking for an Early Career Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Environmental Test Design Engineering team in Berkeley, MO.   The primary focus of this position is to support St. Louis Environmental Lab testing for local Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) programs. The design team works in partnership with the lab test teams to provide the designs and hardware needed to complete testing. Test capabilities within the Environmental labs include vibrational/structural dynamics, acoustic, airflow systems, fuel flow systems, high temperature flow impingement, and environmental control chambers, where temperature, humidity, and pressure are varied.   Mechanical Design Engineers on the team design and modify test articles, fixtures, and support structures that integrate with our lab facilities. Design work ranges from adapters and fixtures to full test rigs and complete aircraft subsystems with their support structures. Responsibilities include designing interfaces to facility infrastructure such as supplied pressure, heating/cooling, power, hydraulics, and a full suite of instrumentation. Design Engineers support fabrication, installation, connection, and acceptance/check-out to deliver test-ready hardware.   Boeing St. Louis is building the future ‒ creating innovative solutions that will define the next generation of aerospace. As part of this team, you will have the opportunity to work on the latest military aircraft and weapons programs such as T-7A, F-15, F/A-18, MQ-25, JDAM, SDB, in addition to Phantom Works proprietary efforts.     Position Responsibilities: • Develop mechanical design criteria from customer test objectives/specifications • Design mechanical systems, components, test apparatus, and interfaces to integrate test articles with lab and facility infrastructure • Create detailed CAD models to support design reviews and fit verification/assembly checks • Evaluate material options and suitable fabrication approaches • Create detailed fabrication and machine-shop drawings and associated documentation • Integrate instrumentation and sensor hardware into mechanical designs • Conduct analyses on test hardware including stress, modal, thermal, and fluid-dynamics assessments • Provide on-site installation guidance and technical direction to lab personnel during hardware inspection, check-out, and test execution  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers, and technicians   Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences) • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. A final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required • Experience with 3D solid modeling software applications (e.g. NX, Catia, CADD) • Experience in mechanical systems design   Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering • 1+ years of experience in mechanical system or fixture design • 1+ years of experience in test and evaluation • 1+ years of experience in stress analysis/structural analysis • Proficiency in Siemens NX • Experience with machine shop fabrication capabilities including conventional & CNC machining, EDM, mill/lathe, fit/finish tools & processes, and QA inspection • Knowledge/familiarity with additive manufacturing processes & tools • Understanding of structural dynamics, fluid flow, and thermodynamics theory & application • Active U.S. Security Clearance in the past 24 months Drug Free Workplace: Boeing is a Drug Free Workplace where post offer applicants and employees are subject to testing for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, PCP, and alcohol when criteria is met as outlined in our policies.  Conflict of Interest: Successful candidate for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
