Amazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Amazon LEO will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity. Amazon Leo is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to build and own the quality foundation for the software stack that powers in-flight connectivity for commercial airlines. The quality standards, test strategies, automation frameworks, and QMS (quality management system) processes will govern how software is developed and tested across a growing fleet and multiple airline customers for the life of the program. The in flight connectivity solution operates at the intersection of embedded software, satellite connectivity, and real-time networking. Quality is not a gate at the end of this development process; it is built into every sprint, every interface contract, and every integration milestone from day one. This role is as much about process creation as it is about test execution. You will define how the team approaches quality management system (QMS) compliance, establish traceability from requirements through test to certification evidence, and serve as the quality voice in every engineering and program decision. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities -Establish the Quality Management System (QMS) framework - define and document the quality processes, standards, and workflows that the engineering team must follow from initial development through aviation certification and production release. This includes software quality assurance (SQA) planning, process compliance checklists, deviation and nonconformance tracking, and quality metrics reporting to program leadership and airline customers. -Own the test strategy for the customer solutions we build covering unit, integration, system, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test levels. -Build and execute integration test plans for all program milestones -Establish requirements traceability - build and maintain the bidirectional traceability matrix linking software requirements through design decisions through test cases through test results. -Define and enforce performance requirements testing. Partner with engineering teams to define measurable acceptance criteria and build the test infrastructure to validate them against defined targets. -Build test automation for the CI/CD pipeline. -Drive design for testability across the engineering team - participate in architecture reviews, interface design reviews, and code reviews with an explicit focus on testability. Identify components or interfaces that cannot be adequately tested and drive design changes before implementation begins. -Establish defect management process and quality reporting - define the defect lifecycle (discovery through triage through root cause through fix through regression), severity classifications aligned with aviation safety considerations, escalation thresholds, and the quality dashboards that program leadership uses to make release decisions. -Champion quality culture - serve as the team's quality advocate in every program decision. Ensure that schedule pressure does not bypass quality gates, that certification evidence is generated alongside development rather than reconstructed after the fact, and that the team understands what aviation-grade quality means in practice. A day in the life Your morning might begin with a design review, where you assess the testability of an upcoming feature and outline your test approach. By midday, you are writing automated test scripts, validating complex workflows, and triaging newly reported defects to pinpoint root causes. Afternoons often involve collaborating with developers on bug fixes, refining test coverage based on code changes, and mentoring a teammate on automation best practices. You regularly contribute to retrospectives, sharing insights that help your team ship higher quality software faster. About the team Our team brings together engineers from avionics and embedded systems, enterprise networking, distributed cloud infrastructure, and aviation certification. Our team includes engineers with backgrounds ranging from embedded software to large-scale distributed systems - and we value the full range of that experience.
