System Development Engineer II, Robotics Integration and Optimization Services — Washington

We are looking for a System Development Engineer with a passion for developing embedded industrial software and control systems to transform the way we integrate robotics within our global network of advanced warehouses. This position is a unique opportunity to be involved in a wide range of automation projects right from the start. You will interface with multiple internal Amazon R&D and design teams as well as the world’s leading automation strategic partners who have the technology and resources to meet Amazon’s growth needs on a global scale. This is a role in a growing team responsible for realizing the convergence of modern software development with traditional industrial control. It is an early-stage initiative with a fast paced, highly collaborative start-up like environment inside Amazon, so to be successful you need to be flexible and entrepreneurial. You are a true owner - you are hands on and you lead by example. Key job responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain control software applications for mechatronic systems using modern software development practices, including CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies. - Implement automated testing frameworks and deployment strategies to ensure code quality, reliability, and seamless integration of control systems software. - Develop and optimize motion control algorithms, embedded programs, and real-time control systems for industrial automation. - Drive operational excellence through monitoring, analysis, and continuous improvement of software performance metrics and system reliability. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements, and troubleshoot issues with mechatronic systems. - 25% travel expected to support onsite system testing - 4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience - 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust - 2+ years of embedded software development experience - Experience deploying, and supporting mechatronic systems - Bachelor's degree - Experience building services using AWS products - Experience with Linux/Unix - Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes - Experience with CODESYS, industrial fieldbus protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
