Our commitment extends beyond business success as we strive to build sustainable processes that minimize environmental impact and foster vibrant and diverse communities around the globe.   The Senior Manufacturing Engineer SME is responsible for leading and advancing Large Form Assembly (LFA) mechanical manufacturing operations by architecting, sustaining, and optimizing mechanical assembly processes. This role serves as the mechanical manufacturing Subject Matter Expert (SME), ensuring structural integrity, production readiness, and process robustness across New Product Introduction (NPI), production ramp, and sustaining phases. The position drives Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), PFMEA development, mechanical risk assessments, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives to support safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. How will you make an impact? You will play a critical role in developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for complex mechanical assemblies, ensuring scalable, repeatable, and high-quality production. Through technical leadership, process innovation, and cross-functional collaboration, you will improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce risk, enhance product reliability, and support successful product launches and production operations. What will you do? • Lead the development, review, and control of mechanical manufacturing documentation including work instructions, assembly drawings, exploded views, torque specifications, SOPs, Bills of Materials, and process flow documentation. • Conduct DFM and DFA reviews during NPI phases to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, serviceability, ergonomics, and defect prevention. • Develop, maintain, and update PFMEA documentation and structured risk assessments for mechanical assembly processes. • Define and standardize mechanical assembly methodologies, including fastening strategies, torque validation, gasket and sealing interfaces, alignment techniques, and workmanship standards. • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to prevent fit-up issues, interference conditions, leakage paths, and structural misalignment. • Lead installation and assembly strategies for frames, enclosures, heat exchangers, piping, hoses, brackets, structural supports, and lifting interfaces. • Translate complex engineering drawings into effective, production-ready work instructions that support multi-level operator capabilities. • Develop and optimize build sequences to improve safety, ergonomics, takt time alignment, and Overall Labor Efficiency (OLE). • Collaborate with Industrial, Electrical, Controls, Quality, and Test Engineering teams to improve assembly flow and reduce defects. • Provide advanced troubleshooting and hands-on support for mechanical build issues, including structural, vibration, leak, and fit-up concerns. • Support equipment commissioning activities, FAT/SAT execution, and manufacturing readiness efforts. • Ensure engineering change control and ECN discipline throughout NPI, ramp-up, and sustaining production. • Drive continuous improvement projects focused on quality, reliability, safety, cost reduction, and process standardization. • Identify opportunities to enhance product robustness, minimize warranty risk, and lower total cost of ownership. • Serve as a technical mentor and escalation point for engineers, technicians, and manufacturing teams. • Maintain controlled mechanical documentation and support compliance with applicable engineering and manufacturing standards. How will you get here? Education & Experience • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical manufacturing, industrial equipment assembly, or related engineering environments. • Proven experience leading DFM/DFA initiatives and manufacturing process optimization projects. • Experience developing and maintaining PFMEA documentation and mechanical risk mitigation strategies. • Strong experience reading, interpreting, and reviewing mechanical drawings, GD&T requirements, tolerance stack-ups, and complex assembly prints. • Hands-on experience with structural assemblies, piping and hose routing, pressure interfaces, fastening systems, and torque-controlled assembly processes. • Experience developing manufacturing documentation including SOPs, standard work instructions, visual aids, and operator training materials. • Experience supporting NPI launches, production ramp activities, and sustaining manufacturing operations. • Experience working with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to support production traceability, electronic work instructions, process control, quality data collection, genealogy tracking, and manufacturing system integration. • Experience utilizing MES platforms to drive process standardization, data-driven decision making, and continuous improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment. • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, quality, and safety standards, including OSHA, ISO, ASME, and pressure/torque-related safety practices. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities • Advanced understanding of large-form mechanical assembly methodologies and structural integration practices. • Strong knowledge of GD&T application, tolerance analysis, and stack-up risk prevention in high-mix manufacturing environments. • Expertise in fastener selection, torque strategies, torque validation, gasket and sealing systems, hose and piping routing, and structural alignment techniques. • Strong understanding of torque and fastener fundamentals, including clamp load, thread engagement, torque sequencing, joint integrity, and failure prevention. • Hands-on experience with smart torque tools, including setup, programming, validation, traceability, and data collection. • Experience creating and maintaining engineering documentation using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or similar CAD platforms. • Familiarity with lifting strategies, fixturing, assembly aids, and ergonomic risk reduction techniques. • Experience supporting mechanical kitting strategies to improve material readiness and line-side efficiency. • Understanding of mechanical failure modes including vibration, fatigue, stress concentration, leakage paths, and pressure containment risks. • Working knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), including production tracking, electronic travelers, work instruction deployment, quality management integration, nonconformance management, and process monitoring. • Strong root cause analysis and structured problem-solving skills utilizing methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, and A3. • Ability to identify and eliminate non-value-added activities using Lean Manufacturing principles. • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills within cross-functional manufacturing environments. • Ability to manage multiple priorities while providing technical leadership across programs and operations. Preferred Qualifications • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline. • Experience supporting large-form assembly, industrial equipment manufacturing, data center infrastructure, energy systems, or similar complex mechanical products. • Experience with MES platforms such as Siemens Opcenter, Rockwell FactoryTalk, SAP ME/MII, Critical Manufacturing, or equivalent systems. • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification. • Experience supporting highly regulated manufacturing environments.
